Mathematical Themes in my Career at Sandia National Laboratories

This presentation will give a broad overview of aspects of my career at Sandia National Laboratories in which mathematical, engineering and computational science disciplines appear at every turn. Areas to be mentioned include the computational modeling of the magnetohydrodynamic equations and uncertainty quantification as it relates to physical modeling. A basic background in calculus will be helpful for some parts of the presentation. I will give several examples and mention areas of mathematics which apply. I hope every attendee will gain some insight into the broad potential and scope of careers in computational science and will realize how a career in this area might allow them to make significant contributions toward solving difficult and important problems of national and international scope. I will also discuss my recommendations for personal growth through undergraduate internship experiences.
