  • Grew up in Provo and graduated from Timpview High School.
  • Served in the Belgium Antwerp Mission (Flemish speaking, same time as Dr. Todd Fischer).
  • Father (also Tom Draper) teaches in Social Science Department at BYU.
  • Graduated with a BS in mathematics from BYU in only two years.
  • Top score in the world on the 1995 Actuarial Exam 100.
  • Started working at National Security Agency (NSA) in 1997.
  • Completed PhD at University of Maryland, College Park while working full time at NSA.

Dr. Draper is a cryptographic mathematician and works for the Information Assurance Directorate (IAD) of the National Security Agency (NSA). IAD's mission is to protect the electronic communications of the US government. This includes providing best practice guidance for information protection as well as vulnerability and threat analysis.One of his main research areas is quantum information science. The quantum computer, if it can be built, will revolutionize the world of cryptography.
