The master of science is designed to prepare students for positions in business and industry. It also provides preparation for further graduate study leading to a doctoral degree.
"Getting a Master's degree at Brigham Young University was a great experience academically and professionally. The department was very flexible and let me customize my course work to meet my needs. The professors were very helpful and excited to work with graduate students. While a graduate assistant, I had the opportunity to teach college algebra and be the assistant administrator of the Math Lab. This provided great job experience from teaching to business to computers skills."

The doctoral program prepares students for a career in research and teaching at the university level or in basic research in a non-academic setting.
"It was wonderful to study mathematics at Brigham Young University. What I felt and experienced here will benefit me forever. First of all, there are very good facilities and a good studying environment. The department has a lot of excellent professors and nice staff. Every person was willing to help me succeed. Also the city of Provo is really a great place to live; it is quiet and peaceful, not small and not huge; life is convenient and full of joys. I just want to say this is the right place for everybody!"
