What makes BYU's mathematics graduate program so great? Well, to name a few reasons...
Great Faculty: Besides doing quality and demanding teaching, the professors here go out of their way to help students. It's very easy to set up an appointment with a teacher if you can't make his/her office hours. Some advisors set aside a certain time each week to work together with a student on the student's project or thesis.
Teaching Assistantships: Besides the nice stipend and tuition waver that comes with a teaching assistantship, the job brings experience preparing lectures, holding office hours, making up exams, designing a grading policy, etc. It's an invaluable learning opportunity.
Student Office Space: Most offices house two students and a nice computer connected to the internet, with the exception of two large offices which house four students each. This means lots of shelf space for your books. No being cramped in crowded offices!
Plenty of Computers: Plenty means one computer for every two grad students in their office, plus a lab for graduate and undergraduate use. Some grad students work as system programmers to support departmental academic and research computing.
Colloquium and Weekly Seminars: These are opportunities to hear about the latest research. You might be asked to present your research during one!
Pi Mile Fun Run: This is the annual Math Department social planned by the Graduate Student Council members. You can run, jog, walk, wheel, or whatever the 3.1415... mile course and then enjoy food, games, and an awards ceremony.
The World's Greatest Secretaries: Any grad student gets to know the Math Department's Staff right away. They are the all-knowing staff that keep everything running smoothly.
Other Grad Students: One of the best things about being a graduate student at the Math Department is the friends you make here. Group work is encouraged in most classes, so you get to know your fellow students very well. There's nothing like having other students to network with, say hi to, and to help keep your sanity during finals.
