Description
Topics selected from various aspects of mathematics. Possibilities include, but are not limited to: combinatorial design theory; factorization and primality testing; game theory; harmonic analysis; hyperbolic geometry; linear programming; Lie groups; p-adic numbers; set theory and mathematical logic; stochastic processes; supply chain management; voting theory.
Desired Learning Outcomes
Students should be familiar with the areas of mathematical research described (naturally in a highly schematic way) by the lecturers in the course. The areas of research will be essentially those that are currently being pursued by BYU faculty in the mathematics department. Students will be able to make an informed choice if they wish to begin a program of undergraduate research with one of the faculty.
